This UCL Public Policy eXtend course is the first in a series of modules exploring Public Policy Engagement. The Essentials introduces learners to foundational knowledge in public policy engagement. Recognising that many challenges exist, the course content has been designed to help early career researchers and university staff gain an overview of the policy ecosystem and identify strategies and resources to assist them to incorporate academic-policy engagement into their work.
This module has been designed to enable learners to achieve the following learning outcomes:
- Identify the different stages in the policymaking process and policy professionals stakeholders
- Assess their personal and professional motivations for engaging with public policy.
- Prioritise routes for their policy engagement activities.
Course team
Audrey Tan is the Public Policy Engagement Facilitator for Life and Medical Sciences (LMS). Audrey joined the team in March 2020 and is responsible for identifying LMS research with policy relevance, and developing bespoke dissemination and knowledge exchange strategies to enhance policy impact. She builds capacity for academic policy engagement, with a focus on targeting early career researchers and people from under-represented groups. With a background in research methodology, Audrey has previously worked for Cochrane as the Research Fellow for the Circulation and Breathing Network and for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists as a Systematic Reviewer producing clinical practice guidelines for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
