Course Outline
This self-guided short course is aimed at undergraduates, postgraduates, early career researchers and data managers, and non-academic professionals who work with research data.
In this course you will engage with introductory concepts around the role of data in research and explores the value of metadata in primary and secondary research data through application of the professionally recognised FAIR principles.

- Define data in the context of a research enquiry
- Recognise the value of metadata in primary and secondary research
- Examine effective metadata practices using the CLOSER Discovery tool
- Describe the impact of poor metadata practices on the longevity of research data
- Explain the FAIR principles and identify further resources for putting FAIR into practice
